Let’s TRIM 2020 and BEGIN 2021 STRONG!

As we are just a few weeks away from closing out 2020, soon to be planning your New Years Resolutions, well, I got to thinking what better way to go into 2021 other than by SHEDDING the weights of fear! 

Have you ever thought of it like that?!  When it comes to our health, we usually automatically think we need to shed weight like losing pounds but I wanted to switch the script and teach you ways you can SHED the WEIGHTS that FEAR has placed upon you.  And I’m going to teach you, not only how to shed fear, but how to build up a healthy foundation so you have systems in place for kickstarting your physical health, to elevate your mindset, fuel your faith, and support your future! 

How does that sound?!

We are taught in 1 Corinthians 2:5, KJV: “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”

This means that when we rely on others or ourselves or our circumstances or our jobs or our finances…we will always fall short and lose our faith.  But when we rely on the power of God–our faith will skyrocket and be renewed.

We all have faced some sort of setback this year, haven’t we!  Tell me what you did when you faced your particular challenge?  Did you let fear become your glasses?! Did you get angry!? Did you become determined?!  Did you use it to change something that you didn’t like in your life?!

Well, just as 1 Corinthians tells us that our faith should be in the power of God, we need to let that become the basis for everything we do.  That is step one==write that down!  Put your FAITH in the power of God!  Operating by this and having this mindset will automatically help you shed FEAR because you are no longer seeing your power (which is actually limited power) but instead, you are elevating your mindset to relying in God’s strength over your circumstances.

The other day, last Thursday to be exact (!), I woke up and started my day as usual.  By noon, I was mentally exhausted because the entire morning did not go as planned.  In fact, everything was backwards!  Literally everything I set out to do didn’t work out.  I took a moment and paused and said, “Okay, what can I do differently here even though everything is out of my control?”  Instantly, I started praying PRAISE over all of the things that went wrong.  “Thank you God for the delay and for the detour, I know you have a greater plan”.  I can’t tell you but automatically, it’s like the weights lifted and felt like the sun just came out!  I Prayed Praise Prayers (PPP!) that helped me to get my eyes off of my circumstances and into the power that God holds.  Write that down and let it become your go-to…PRAY PRAISE PRAYERS.  

One of the things that keeps us feeling stuck in moving forward or making necessary changes in our lives is that we either; (1) don’t know where to begin because the task is too big, or (2) we can’t stay committed.

So, let me introduce you to this Mental Motivation Trick

Start small but start somewhere.  

Write that down!

When I am working with my clients, the one thing I always help them to start with is identifying a big goal and reverse engineer it.  Which can look like this:

You want to change your eating habits from choosing sugary foods or overeating, but you find you end up on the same trail where shortly after, you default back.  So, we work together to identify what can you do in small increments?  Then, we set a goal/also known as a priority, that is segmented into a week at a time.  You can do ANYTHING for 7 days.  Because what then happens is by starting small, (1) you’ve already started a huge task! And (2) unknowingly, you started a new habit because you were dedicated for 7 days.  Do you see the theme 🙂 As you make the same dedication for the next 7 days, then the next 7 days, and so on, chances are your body (mind, physical, faith), etc. will not revert back because you’ve established and built a foundation that is stable and it started as being stable.

Wave your hands or nod your head if that sounds easy to do!!

Virginia Satir said, “We can learn something new anytime we believe we can!” How good is that!

Step 2: Your Soul Deserves Nourishment.

What does this mean?

It means that in times of great uncertainty and when facing challenges, you look after your own spiritual health and double down on your faith. Thinking about the phrase “Your soul deserves nourishment,” keeps you grounded through difficult times and allows you to rise above your circumstances.  Circumstances are limiting.  They make us feel boxed in without an escape route.  So not only your soul, but did you catch the word, Nourishment?!  Especially in tough times, you need to be choosing the right FUEL FOODS that will FUEL your overall Health.  Remember, that includes your mind + body + soul.

Without nourishing your mind on things eternal and faith-based, 

Without fueling your body by the food you eat, staying active, loving yourself just as you were made in God’s image, 

Without using your true talents to advance the kingdom and for God’s work,

 You will always feel off balance.  

In my programs, I teach something called the 5 Dimensions of Well-being which helps you look at these five areas: Primary Foods, Secondary Foods, Functional Foods, Mental Foods, and Spiritual Foods.  The level our our overall health is directly related to our environment, internally and externally.  Through this format, I help women learn how to Ditch The Diet and how to naturally GLOW.  So I am going to teach you that today!

When it comes to our physical health and nutrition, we have 4 types of Foods that are required when it comes to food choices, habits, and lifestyle changes.  Write these down! 

1. Hair Food 2. Skin Food 3. Fuel Food 4. Brain Food

Here’s a key phrase to remember:

Fill Up Your Plate, Don’t Eliminate

Its important to reframe our minds around healthy eating.  Most of the time we think elimination or the word NO but what that really does is creates tension between what we want and what we can’t have.  So instead of looking at eliminating, think about what can you ADD.  In the 4 types of FOODS listed above, when we place commitment and focus on what is going IN, things start to change.  The physical state of our body, meaning effortlessly shedding pounds (!) begins to happen because we are FUELING our Bodies with the proper nourishment and it no longer craves old ingredients (like sugar!).

Focusing on incorporating richly-hydrated foods on a daily basis will do wonders.  

Consume Hydration.  Choose foods that are anti-inflammatory.  Build up resistance by creating your own internal “ecosystem”.

Many of us face chronic inflammation without even knowing it.  The majority of all digestive sensitivities are somehow linked to inflammation.  The cycle of inflammation places great challenges on our digestive health which also impacts our mental health.  The role of the digestive system is incredible as it speaks directly to our brains (can be the center for anxiety, worry, etc.) and provides 70-80% of the immune function in our bodies.

When we start by knowing how our bodies function and the simple ingredients that our bodies need, our health is transformed.  Gaining the education on this is essential because then we understand by God’s design, how to properly fuel it and we make changes from a different place.

Things you can start doing today:

  1. Adding rich anti-inflammatory foods to each plate.  This helps to create a healthy “ecosystem” in acheiving a healthy environment for your digestion.  Not to mention, it helps combat sugar cravings.
  2. Each plate should contain a variety of healthy protein, good fats, and green veggies
  3. A diet high in fat helps to reduce fat: Remember “Fat is your Friend!” Supplementing with CLA into your daily regime is a great place to start.
  4. Consuming hydration by ensuring your water intake is 90% over other beverages
  5. True story I’ll share real quick.  About 3 years ago I had a really short haircut and by really short, I mean what felt like was in between my chin and ear lobes!  Have you ever experienced that?! Self-Reflection:

Take a moment to reflect on where your nourishment comes from and …

Write it down!

Think about where you spend your time, who you spend your time with, is it elevated when it comes from being with family or friends, is it from a post-exercise activity, or how about after a meal?

Start by writing out your statement such as:

“When I (do/am) _____, my soul is nourished and my life is enriched.”  

“When I surround myself with ______ , my spirit, faith, health & happiness thrives.”  

Write it down!

Now, take a few moments to turn your Statement into a Committment!

Create your personal commitment statement with a title that will bring you excitement when you read it each day!  Such as: My Personal Wellness Visions — or My Faith-filled Wellness Committment…

Write it down!

In a nutshell, here are requirements for successful outcomes in maintaining your new personal wellness journey:

✓ Self-development (education, staying with your personal committments) 

✓ Investing in yourself (time, action, your personal wellness journey) 

✓Setting BIG Audacious Goals that only God can complete through your Faith in His Power
